2006 Mayacamas Chardonnay
This classic Chardonnay, which comes from Mt. Veeder in the Napa Valley, is aged in a combination of American and French oak barrels for a year and a half for a sultry expression with crisp acidity typical for this historic producer. It’s aromatic profile is boisterous, with notes of white fig, pine pitch and melon. On the palate, it's citrusy, peachy and lightly spicy with a long, juicy finish. This will evolve nicely over the next five years or more.
1999 Mayacamas Merlot
A recent library release from Mayacamas Vineyards, the 1999 Merlot actually has a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon (9%), which adds to its already powerful mountain Merlot frame. Scents of smoky briar fruit and earth fill out on the palate, complemented by cherry flavors and spice. With a decade of age, the tannins are softening to reveal a sultry core.
2004 Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvignon
The wine is dark red-ruby, with brooding aromas of black fruits, chocolate, lavender and dried herbs. It is lush, sweet and approachable while showing off its spicy and attractive nature. The wine is very rich, full-bodied and intense and finishes with substantial dusty tannins. Steven Tanzer gives this wine a 90 point rating. |
